India middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer was recently ruled out of the rest of the Test series against England. Even though the official reason was his back injury, fans have alleged that his poor form led to him losing his place in the team. The right-hander decided to skip the Ranji Trophy game citing the injury. However, NCA has reportedly shared an email with the Indian Cricket Board selectors.

In the mail, the academy has stated that the Mumbaikar has no fresh injuries and is fit to play. His domestic team, Mumbai will play in the Ranji Trophy (Elite) quarterfinal against Baroda. The match will start alongside the fourth Test between India and England.

“Shreyas Iyer was fit and available for selection as per the handover report of the Indian team after the 2nd Test match against England. There are currently no fresh injuries reported as well after his departure from Team India,” as reported by The Indian Express.

Players prioritising IPL over domestic cricket is concerning: Jay Shah

Meanwhile, last week, the Indian Cricket Board secretary expressed his concerns over players getting into IPL mode without playing in domestic cricket. Not to forget, Ishan Kishan was confirmed by Kiran More to be practicing at the former India cricketer’s academy. Kishan denied playing in the Ranji Trophy 2024.

“The concerning trend of players prioritising the IPL over domestic red-ball cricket”.

“There is a recent trend that has started to emerge and is a cause for concern. Some players have begun prioritising the IPL over domestic cricket, a shift that was not anticipated. Domestic cricket has always been the foundation upon which Indian cricket stands, and it has never been undervalued in our vision for the sport,” Shah said in the letter.

“Our vision for Indian cricket has been clear from the outset – every cricketer aspiring to play for India must prove themselves in domestic cricket. Performance in domestic cricket remains a critical yardstick for selection and non-participation in domestic cricket will carry severe implications,” wrote the Board secretary.
