In the 14th match of the Indian Premier League 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Punjab Kings by 8 wickets. This is SRH’s first victory of the season. Earlier in the tournament, Hyderabad didn’t start well. The team lost their opening match of the season by 72 runs to Rajasthan Royals before being destroyed by Lucknow Super Giants by 5 wickets in their subsequent contest. The same can be said about their new hire, Harry Brook, who costed a hefty INR. 13.25 crore at the IPL 2023 auction.
Brook, who has been phenomenal in international cricket and Pakistan Super League, has failed to replicate his performance in the cash-rich league. In his three outings, Brook scored just 30 runs at an average of 10. The young English batter has been dismissed identically in the first two games by leg spinners, while in the third game against Punjab Kings, he was trapped by Arshdeep Singh.
Notably, in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League, Brook was part of Lahore Qalandars’ squad. The Englishman scored 264 runs in eight innings, including a century and a strike rate of 171.4. His performance and consistency in the Indian sub-continent attracted huge bids from the teams during the auction.

However, Test cricket has been more eye-catching in terms of statistics for Harry Brook. He has scored 809 runs in 10 innings, including four centuries and three fifty. Brook has hammered back-to-back four centuries in the Pakistan series.
After his amazing performance in the Indian subcontinent, England Test team skipper Ben Stokes compared Brook to Virat Kohli and backed the kid to mimic the former India skipper’s success in all formats.
Stokes said, “He’s a player whose technique is suited to all three formats, he wants to always look to be putting pressure back onto the opposition, and he’s won another game for England.” Meanwhile, fans react to Harry Brook’s poor performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
