In the second game of the super Saturday in the Indian T20 League 2023, Lucknow faced Delhi at the iconic Ekkana Stadium. Delhi skipper David Warner won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Lucknow got off to a shaky start, losing their skipper KL Rahul early for just 8 runs off 12 balls. However, West Indies star Kyle Mayers stepped up and hammered the Delhi bowlers all around the park. Mayers and Deepak Hooda added 79 runs for the second wicket in just 42 balls. Mayers scored 73 runs off just 38 balls, including seven sixes and two boundaries. Nicholas Pooran added a quickfire 36 runs to help Lucknow post a hefty total of 193/6 in 20 overs.

Pacer Khaleel Ahmed and Chetan Sakariya shone with the ball for Delhi, each clinching two wickets. Meanwhile, spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel also claimed one wicket each.

In response, Delhi got off to a good start with openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner adding 41 runs in just four overs. However, in his very first over, pacer Mark Wood dismissed Shaw and Mitchell Marsh on consecutive balls to derail the run chase. In his next over, Wood claimed another wicket, dismissing wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Khan for just 4 runs off 9 balls.

Warner and Rilee Rossouw tried to keep the game alive for Delhi, but the required run rate got out of their control. Rossouw scored 30 runs off 20 balls, while Warner scored 56 runs off 48 balls. In the last over of the game, Wood dismissed Chetan Sakariya to complete his five-wicket haul. Delhi fell short by 50 runs, with Lucknow starting their campaign on a winning note.

Fans took to social media to react to the match, with many praising Mayers and Wood’s performances. Some fans even joked about the result, saying “UP walo se zara bach ke” (Beware of the people from Uttar Pradesh) in reference to Lucknow’s dominant display. Overall, it was an exciting start to the Indian T20 League 2023, with Lucknow showing their potential to be a force to reckon with in the tournament.
