Prithvi Shaw, Team India’s star opener, has been a constant in headlines in recent weeks. Shaw was finally included in India’s squad for the T20I series against New Zealand earlier this year after being repeatedly overlooked for national selection for a long time. Shaw did not play in the series, but it appeared that his international career was getting a fresh start.

However, an incident on February 15 drew him back into the spotlight. Shaw was allegedly assaulted for refusing to take a selfie after an argument with a social media influencer named Sapna Gill, who then filed an application in a Mumbai police station seeking the registration of an FIR against Shaw and others for allegedly harassing her.

Amid the controversies, Shaw has now posted a cryptic Instagram story in which he seemingly takes a dig at people using him for ‘benefits’. “Some people will only ‘love you’ as much as they can use you. Their loyalty ends where the benefits stop,” Shaw’s Instagram story read.

Shaw last played for India in a T20I against Sri Lanka in July 2021. He has since been a consistent performer for his domestic side Mumbai, which he also captained to the Ranji Trophy final last year. Shaw is a member of the Delhi team in the Indian T20 League.

The team retained the young opener ahead of the 2022 edition; he scored 283 runs in 10 matches in the season, playing at an impressive strike rate of 147.45. Shaw recently participated in a three-day camp in Kolkata alongside Chetan Sakariya and Manish Pandey, among other domestic players. Sourav Ganguly, the legendary former India captain, oversaw the proceedings.

The next edition of the Indian T20 League is set to begin on the 31st of March, with defending champions Gujarat taking on MS Dhoni’s Chennai. The Delhi team will play their first match against Lucknow on the 1st of April.
