Mumbai and Kolkata faced each other in the 14th match of the Indian T20 League at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Without any surprise, Kolkata won the toss and elected to field first. They bowled brilliantly in the first three overs of the powerplay as Mumbai could only muster seven runs. The five-time winners lost their skipper Rohit Sharma (3) as he got out to a bouncer of Umesh Yadav.
Debutant Dewald Brevis came in and batted like his idol AB de Villiers for 29 off 19. Brevis hit two fours and as many sixes before he was stumped by Sam Billings off Varun Chakravarthy. Ishan Kishan (14) followed after three overs as his struggle at the crease was ended by Pat Cummins. Two overs later, Umesh Yadav could have picked the wicket of Tilak Varma had Ajinkya Rahane not messed up the chance.
This proved costly for the team as Varma (38*) and Suryakumar Yadav (52) stitched a partnership of 83 runs of 49 balls before the latter got out to Cummins at the score of 138 in 19.1 overs. Kieron Pollard came in and took the score to 161/4 with his 22 off five balls.
In reply, the Men in Purple and Gold had a poor start as they could only score 16 runs in four overs before Rahane (7) got out to a bouncer by Tymal Mills. Skipper Shreyas Iyer scored a quick 10 off six balls before he got out to Daniel Sams. Sam Billings started well with 17 off 12 balls before his innings was cut short by leggie Murugan Ashwin. Last game hero Andre Russell (11) could not keep his form going as he was accounted for by Mills.
At 101/5, the team was staring down defeat but an explosive partnership of 61 off just 18 balls between Venkatesh Iyer (50* off 41) and Pat Cummins (56* off 15) ensured the team won the game by five wickets and four overs left.

Furious counter-attack by Cummins and Venkatesh leaves MI further in the dumps. Had a decent total to defend but had no answer for two intrepid batsmen who showed exceptional power hitting skills

What an inning, what an inning!!
Pat Cummins you can't do anything wrong today. One of those days where you feel happy you are not bowling in the match. Mumbai made a blunder by not giving ball to a spinner. #KKRvsMI #IPL2022
