Former India skipper MS Dhoni has filed a contempt of court case against an IPS officer from Tamil Nadu, Sampath Kumar. The latter has had a run-in with Dhoni over the last few years over the betting scam in the 2013 IPL. 10 years back, the Indian Premier League was marred by the spot-fixing and betting issues. Notably, the Chennai Super Kings team principal, G. Meiyappan was involved in betting.
It was believed that Dhoni was also involved but there was no evidence suggesting the same. However, Kumar has felt as claimed by Dhoni. The latter said that Kumar spoke about how the Supreme Court of India deviated from the case but never explained why.
“He has stated that the Supreme Court deviated its focus on the rule of law and shelved the deposition of the Justice Mudgal Committee (constituted to probe 2013 match-fixing allegations) and kept it in a sealed cover for reasons he failed to comprehend,” said Dhoni.
The case will be heard by Justices M. Sundar and K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi in Madras High Court. The duo told P.R. Raman (Representing Dhoni) and Perumbulavil Radhakrishnan (representing the IPS officer) that the case will be heard on June 15. The former India skipper has pleaded to the court to punish in a lawsuit in response to a defamation lawsuit of 100 crore INR. The CSK captain filed the case in 2014 for including his name in the betting scam by Kumar.
