The 2023 edition of ODI Cricket World Cup has witnessed a verbal dispute between ex-Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez and former England captain Michael Vaughan. Their recent clash of viewpoints is centered on Virat Kohli’s century against South Africa and Ben Stokes’ game-changing performance against the Netherlands on Wednesday.
Former cricket players Mohammad Hafeez and Michael Vaughan have engaged in some interesting discussions on X during the past few days of the 2023 World Cup. They rekindled their conversation once more when Ben Stokes scored a century against the Netherlands on Wednesday.
Stokes managed to accumulate 108 runs in a mere 84 deliveries, rescuing England from a challenging situation. Responding to this on X, Hafeez indirectly made a reference to Virat Kohli’s performance against South Africa. The former cricketer insinuated that the experienced Indian batsman might have prioritized achieving his personal milestone during his innings.
The former Pakistan skipper also escalated the ongoing dispute, going so far as to mention Michael Vaughan in his post as the former captain of Pakistan and wrote on his Twitter handle;
“Saviour of the ship @benstokes38. Good 100 under pressure anchoring the innings where required with aggressive intent to get Maximum runs for the team to win at the end. Sheer example to differentiate Selfish vs Selfless approach @MichaelVaughan #ENGvNED #CWC23”

The former England skipper also responded effectively to the post, pointing out that Kohli’s century was achieved on a more challenging pitch and arguably against a superior bowling attack. He wrote:
“Great innings from Stokesy @MHafeez22 .. As was Virats on a difficult pitch in Kolkata against a better attack ..

Earlier both Vaughan and Hafeez have been involved in verbal feud after Virat’s 49 Century
Michael Vaughan expressed his disappointment with Mohammad Hafeez’s remarks about Virat Kohli’s performance at the Eden Gardens. Vaughan referenced a video in which Hafeez had commented on Kohli’s approach. He described Kohli’s approach as ‘selfish.’ However, Vaughan went on to elaborate on how admirably Kohli had batted under challenging circumstances and why the margin of victory indicated that Kohli’s innings was far from slow.
“Come on @MHafeez22 !!! India have hammered 8 teams playing great cricket .. @imVkohli now has 49 tons and his last was an anchor role innings on a tricky pitch .. His team won by over 200 !!!! This is utter nonsense .. #CWC2023 #India #Pakistan.”
