On a good batting surface, Harmanpreet Kaur chose to bat first. The Indian women’s team made valuable contributions on Day 1, helping the hosts reach a total well over 400. The Indian batsmen did not register any hundreds, although there were a few century partnerships.
In response, the English women never appeared at ease playing versus the Indian bowlers. They started off well but once Deepti Sharma got the old ball, it was a totally different story. She took a fifer inside 6 overs Because of Deepti Sharma’s outstanding bowling performance, which included five wickets, India was able to build a commanding 292-run advantage.
Harmanpreet did not enforce the follow-on as she felt like posting a daunting total against the mighty England team. The fans were witnessing aggressive cricket from the Indian batters as they looked for quick runs to put pressure on the opposition. They were losing wickets at regular intervals but the brisk scoring ensured the team reached 179 at stumps on Day 2.
The England batsmen failed to muster any resistance in the second innings, just as they had in the first. Pooja Vastrakar claimed three wickets, whilst Deepti Sharma claimed four as the England batsmen were unable to answer her queries. Deepti had an outstanding all-around effort in the game, scoring 87 runs and taking nine wickets. The Indian team are already posing for pictures next to the sidelines, indicating that they are pleased with their victory.
“All the players took the responsibility” : Harmanpreet Kaur
Harmanpreet Kaur spoke after the Indian women’s team’s epic victory over England. This proved to be the highest winning margin in a women’s test in history.
The Indian Women’s team skipper said, “Feeling great. We were thinking about how to win the game at the start of the match. Everything went according to the plan. It was a plan, we had to execute those plans. We had a couple of days to prepare before the start of this game. All the players took the responsibility and delivered their best. The first 40 minutes were crucial, as a team we were looking to pick wickets.”
