Massive blow to Chennai, Moeen Ali likely to miss a few games due to injury
Moeen Ali has been ordinary this season, with 87 runs and no wicket in five games.
According to the reports, Moeen Ali is likely to miss out of a few games for Chennai after sustaining an ankle injury during practice session ahead of Chennai’s match against Punjab. Ali isn’t the only player in the team who has suffered injury. The Yellow Brigade has already lost the likes of Deepak Chahar and Adam Milne due to injuries. Both players have been ruled out of the tournament.
Chahar didn’t play a single game in the tournament while Milne played the first game for the team. Chennai hasn’t named any replacement for Deepak Chahar while Adam Milne has been replaced by Matheesha Pathirana from Sri Lanka. The team’s pace bowling department has struggled due to the dual injury, which has reflected on the team’s performance in the tournament. Chennai have lost five out of seven games in the tournament so far.
Meanwhile, according to the ESPNcricinfo, the franchise is still waiting for the results of the scan. Notably, Ali was dropped from the playing XI in the last game against Mumbai. He was replaced by Mitchell Santner, who batted at number three and scored 11 runs. With the ball, Santner returned with figures of 16/1 in three overs.
Talking about Ali’s performance, he hasn’t lived up to the expectations of the franchise so far. Ali joined the team late after missing the first game due to visa issues. He played five games for the franchise and could only muster 87 runs, averaging 17.40 . With the ball, he bowled eight overs but could not pick a single wicket.
Talking about the team, Chennai are currently sitting at the ninth place in the points table with two wins and five losses in seven games. They need to win at least six out of the remaining seven games to qualify for the playoffs
