Maldives Row

Actor Amitabh Bachchan has urged people to discover the splendour of Indian islands following mocking remarks made by certain political figures in the Maldives regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep. Amitabh responded to a post shared by former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag on X, (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday. The seasoned actor urged, “Don’t damage our independence.”

Amitabh Bachchan responded to Virendra Sehwag’s tweet writing, “Viru paji .. this is so relevant and in the right spirit of our land .. our own are the very best .. I have been to Lakshadweep and Andamans and they are such astonishingly beautiful locations .. stunning waters beaches and the underwater experience is simply unbelievable…Hum Bharat hai, hum atmanirbhar hai, humari atmanirbharta pe aanch mat daliye (We are India, we are self-reliant, don’t let anything blemish ourself-reliance), Jai Hind @virendersehwag.”

Bollywood fraternity on Maldives Row:

A number of other Bollywood celebrities, including John Abraham, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Kangana Ranaut, have joined the ‘Visit Lakshadweep campaign’ by using the hashtag #ExploreIndianIslands. This is in the midst of a controversy surrounding disparaging remarks made on social media about PM Modi’s recent visit to Lakshadweep by a few Maldivian ministers. The government of the Maldives has disassociated itself from the statements expressed by its ministers.

Not only Bollywood, but cricketers, businessmen, leading personalities, and netizens have united to support India and its tourism. The unity showed by the leading men of the country has enlightened patriotism amongst the countrymen. Social media is buzzing with tweets and posts for Indian islands.

PM Modi visited the Union Territory of Lakshadweep on January 2 and shared a number of photos from his visit, including one of him snorkelling, which he described as an “exhilarating experience.” PM Narendra Modi posted images of the ocean, snow-white beaches, and clear blue skies on X, captioning them with the words, “Lakshadweep has to be on your list for those who wish to embrace the adventurer in them.”
