According to a report in Indian Express, it has been discovered that the Kolkata Knight Riders have let go Shardul Thakur just one season after purchasing the bowling all-rounder for the highest trade buy in IPL history ,INR 10.75 Cr. This has happened with less than 12 hours remaining until the IPL 2024 Retentions deadline.
Before spending a season with the Delhi Capitals, Thakur was a member of the Chennai Super Kings team from 2018 to 2021. In 2023, he had a miserable season with KKR, managing only 113 runs at bat from 11 innings and claiming just seven wickets with the ball.
The two-time IPL champion with CSK failed to inspire KKR, who won the league in both 2012 and 2014, to make it to the postseason as they finished with just six games out of a possible 14 games, placing them at the bottom half of the league’s 10-team standings.
The IPL crown was won by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and 2014. This indicates that the group has been waiting ten years for the championship. Gautam Gambhir, a former captain of KKR, has returned to the squad as a consultant. He was a member of the Lucknow Super Giants before joining KKR. Delhi Capitals management have decided to retain Team India opener Prithvi Shaw despite his poor performances for the franchise. He was signed in the year 2019 and was retained by the franchise during the mega auction as well.
