Messi was given his first start against an MLS club after making a thrilling debut as a substitute in the previous game against Mexican club Cruz Azul, where he scored the winning goal in the 94th minute.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner wasted no time leaving his mark on the match. It took only eight minutes for him to open the scoring, thanks to a perfectly timed ball over the top from his former Barcelona teammate, Sergio Busquets, which sent him sprinting towards the goal. Although Messi’s initial shot hit the post, he did not let the opportunity slip away and expertly slotted the rebound into the net.
