Star Indian fast bowler Mohammad Siraj has been rewarded for his performances in the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand as he’s climbed to the top of the ODI bowlers rankings. Siraj dethroned Trent Boult from the top who didn’t feature in the ODI series against India. As Siraj moved up in the ODI rankings, star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav congratulated him on his Instagram Story and put up a strange message.
Suryakumar shared the congratulatory post of the Apex Cricket Body for Siraj on his story and wrote, ‘Lelo ab Landaaaaaa. Kya baat hai Magic’.
Siraj has been enjoying a great run in the ODIs since 2022. He was one of the only two Indian players to be included in the ODI XI of the year. In 2022, he picked up 24 wickets in 15 innings at an average of 23.50 and an economy of 4.62 with best bowling figures of 3/29.

He recently finished as the highest wicket-taker of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. He scalped nine wickets in the series at an outstanding average of 10.22 and an economy of 4.05. He further carried his form in the subsequent ODI series against New Zealand and picked up five wickets in two innings at an average of 11.20 and an economy of 3.50.
So far in 2023, he has picked up 14 wickets in five innings at an average of 10.57 and an economy of 3.52 with two four-wicket hauls to his name. With him ascending to the number 1 rank, Siraj has joined an elite list of India bowlers who have earlier claimed the spot in ODIs including the great Kapil Dev, Maninder Singh, Anil Kumble, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah.
India have also climbed to the top of the ODI rankings after whitewashing New Zealand 3-0, who incidentally started the tour at top of the standings. India, with 114 rating points, are just ahead of current world England (113) at the second spot while Australia (112) are at the third spot.
Shubman Gill leaves Virat Kohli behind in ODI rankings
Shubman Gill also had a dramatic rise in the rankings as he moved up 20 spots to be No. 6 on the batters’ table, one place above Virat Kohli. He scored 360 runs in the three ODIs against New Zealand, including a double-century and a century and finished as the highest run scorer of the series.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma has also jumped two places up to No. 9 among batters after his 85-ball 101 in the third ODI against New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Twitter was abuzz with reactions on Suryakumar Yadav’s post for Mohammed Siraj. Here are some of the Tweets:
