When batting first, the hosts South Africa scored just 55 in 23.2 overs, their lowest-ever Test total against India. With career-best stats of 6/15, Mohammed Siraj shone for India in the first innings. Mukesh Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah both took two wickets during this time.
Team India responded by collapsing, losing their final six wickets for 153 after 34.5 overs without scoring any more runs. With 46 runs to his name, including one maximum as well as six boundaries, Virat Kohli led the visitors batting. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill contributed as well as the visitors got a 98-run lead in the first innings. For the Proteas, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, as well as Nandre Burger each claimed three wickets.
At stumps on Day 1, the home team, having Aiden Markram and David Bedingham standing at the crease, were 62/3 in 17 overs, behind by 36 runs. Dean Elgar’s valuable scalp was among the two wickets claimed by Mukesh Kumar. Jasprit Bumrah, in the meantime, got rid of rookie Tristan Stubbs with an incredible ball.
Virat Kohli gives a fitting tribute to Dean Elgar!
Virat Kohli asked all his teammates not to celebrate the wicket of Dean Elgar and to respect him.
Such a gentleman he is. ??https://t.co/JolT7qZG0W pic.twitter.com/2ENHNhwfhl

After being sent back to the pavilion in his last Test innings, South Africa’s opener Dean Elgar was approached by Indian sensation Virat Kohli and given a hug. The event occurred towards the close of day’s play in the second Test in Cape Town.
Elgar took the field for the second time on the same day when bowlers controlled the action and appeared to be headed for one of his signature rearguard efforts. But he jabbed at a short ball from Mukesh Kumar, which was collected well by Kohli at first slip. Virat Kohli encouraged the audience to bend down to greet the South African skipper and hurried up to give him a hug, despite the wicket’s significance at a critical juncture in the match.
Fans react as 23 wickets fall on Day 1 of the second Test between India and South Africa: –
