Just before the ODI World Cup 2023, images purporting to show soiled seats within the Rajeev Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad went viral. He has since offered an explanation for his posts. He claimed that the Western Terrace stand’s seats remain filthy, although the remainder of the venue has been renovated. Three ODI World Cup matches are set to be held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad.
On Tuesday, October 3, a member of the social networking platform X posted several images of filthy seats with the allegation that they were taken from one of the audience at Uppal Stadium.
Users questioned the veracity of his post, so he submitted another photo showing his ticket from the warm-up game between Australia and Pakistan to show that he was indeed there. As additional evidence of validity, the X user uploaded a video taken at the stadium.
Fans criticised the Indian Cricket Board when videos and pictures of the stadium’s seats in Hyderabad quickly went popular on social media. The X user afterwards uploaded a few additional posts and made it clear that just one of these stands was defective.
User clarifies mistake about seats at stadium
Additionally, he clarified that his initial post on the subject was a reference to a photo he had published in May on the state of the seats inside the Western Terrace stands.
He wrote on twitter clarifying his mistake as he said, “My tweets on bad condition of seats in some stands of the Uppal Stadium have gone viral. Some people outside the country r trying to take advantage. I wud like to clarify that the stadium has been renovated with brand new seats & only Western Terrace stands old seats are bad.”
He added, “HCA, it seems, didn’t have enough time to replace all the chairs before the World Cup. Bt they shud hv got the old chairs cleaned up before the match. The rest of the facilities in the stadium are excellent and no one should have any doubts about hosting capacities of India.”

Nothing much has changed in Uppal stadium. Only some window dressing and spectator comfort still not taken care of in full.#worldcup2023 pic.twitter.com/RiPyeRsfEn

Nothing is going to happen unless people protest or boycott by “not” seeing matches effectively lowering the ads revenue. And yes, people need to stop making cricketers gods.

Pathetic! This was expected though as they just replaced ground floor chairs…stating lack of time even though they had enough time.

I blame the rains. Had it rained the night preceding the game, all this poop would have been washed off, but rains betrayed HCA. How unfair!!?
