‘Kya badiya bowling kari’ – Fans react as Paarl Royals register magnificent 27-run win over Pretoria Capitals in SA20 2024
Pretoria Capitals looked clueless in the second half of their batting innings as they did not have any answers to the opposition bowlers.
Jos Buttler and Jason Roy scored 42 runs in less than 5 overs, giving Paarl Royals a quick start. However, the Pretoria Capitals battled back with crucial wickets. With 41, David Miller held forte, while Mitchell van Buuren provided strong assistance. For the fourth wicket, the two were able to score 61 runs. Another mini-collapse ensued, and Andile Phehlukwayo’s quick 14-ball 28* was required to get them to 160.
Considering the circumstances, the Capitals will believe they have given up ten runs more, but they will also support their hitters to try to reduce this deficit. The total was quite competitive on a slow, somewhat two-paced surface in Paarl.
The Pretoria Capitals scored 80 runs in the first ten overs and only 53 in the last ten overs. That pretty much sums up their pursuit; 15 of those runs scored in the last over before the game was decided. Up until halfway through, they were still in the chase, but after that, they lost the plot.
The game’s first wicket for the sides came via Phil Salt’s dismissal. He gave them a head start and got the scoreboard moving until the eleventh over, when Tabraiz Shamsi defeated him. After he left, the innings stalled, and the loss might have been considerably worse if Neesham hadn’t hit a hat-trick of fours during the last over. In the end, the Paarl Royals were able to scalp a 27-run win to start off their SA20 2024 campaign.
“I think 140-150 was a par score” : David Miller
The winning skipper, David Miller spoke to the reporters in the post match presentation. He was utterly delighted by his team’s performance in the opening game. The bowlers were accurate in their line and lengths and he credited them also.
The South African batter said, “It was a bit tight after the powerplay but the guys brought it back and executed the plans. Great finish and quite pleased. We have bolstered our bowling attack and have the confidence to defend totals. We squeezed nicely in the middle and brought it back. I think 140-150 was a par score. This competition has grown from strength to strength from last year, much like last year the grounds have been full which is nice to see.”

Is Andile Phehkukwayo still underrated, or have we all accepted that he is a short format all-rounder?#SA20 #PRvPC
