India announced its squad for the ODI series against Australia, which is set to happen in the last week of September. The series will act as a preparatory assignment for the two teams ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The series is set to take place in India. Australia has announced a full-strength squad against India and recalled some of its senior players who were injured.
The likes of Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Cameron Green, and Pat Cummins are back in the ODI setup of Australia. Only Travis Head and Ashton Agar are missing from the squad, who are in the ODI squad of the Australian 2023 ODI World Cup squad. On the other end, India’s selection process has baffled the fans, experts, and former cricketers, as some of the key players are rested for a few games.
Sanju Samson gets neglected by Indian management and selectors yet again
The senior batters in the team like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are rested for the first two ODI matches of the series. The two senior batters will be back for the third ODI against Australia. Despite the absence of the key players, there have been some missing names in the ODI squad of India for the series against Australia. The biggest of them all is Sanju Samson, who has been in very good form in ODIs.
The wicketkeeper batter was a regular in the Indian setup in the recent times, particularly in the ODIs. Despite him not doing anything wrong, India excluded him from the Asia Cup squad of India. India excluded Samson from the 2023 ODI World Cup squad as well. Now in the absence of the senior players, Samson does not get a call up, which is highly surprising.
The middle order batter is talented and consistent in ODIs. Samson can bat at any position from 3 to 6 and can keep wickets as well. He is a good fielder as well. The batter from Kerala announced his disappointment by posting a smile emoji on his Facebook account.
