Koffee With Karan 8 – Alia Bhatt slams the trolls calling Ranbir Kapoor ‘Toxic’

Published on

Trust Karan Johar to get celebrities to answer even the most difficult questions they’ve avoided for months. On the most recent episode of Koffee With Karan, he asked his guest Alia Bhatt about her recent comments about her husband Ranbir Kapoor, which sparked a major backlash. Kareena Kapoor, Alia’s sister-in-law, joined her on the couch.

For the unversed, Alia recently stated in a beauty tutorial video that Ranbir dislikes it when she wears lipstick and tells her to ‘wipe it off’. While she did mention that he said so because he liked the natural look of her lips, people on social media found his behaviour to be a little too overbearing and even ‘toxic’. Many tweets and videos were shared, assessing and dissecting their allegedly unhealthy relationship.

Now, Alia mentioned on the show that the fact that Ranbir is not on social media may play a role in all of the trolling that they frequently receive. She stated, “I speak in a straightforward manner. So, whenever I talk about anything in my life, I try to imitate the person, tell anecdotes, and make it personal. I believe that a lot of things are picked out of context, as was recently demonstrated by the video. My team informed me that ‘ye kuch out of hand jaara hai’. Okay, theek hai jaane do, I thought. Then I realized there were serious articles written about how toxic he was, and I wondered, ‘Are we serious?’ There are numerous issues in the world that require more attention.”

She further adds, “The only reason I feel bad is that he is genuinely the polar opposite… There is a line that I believe is being crossed, but you are powerless to intervene. Ranbir says, ‘Alia, the audience owns you, they can say whatever the hell they want about you, as long as your movies are doing well, please don’t complain sitting in your Bandra apartment.”

Alia Bhatt had made a similar remark recently. She stated that, while she feels bad about the negative things she reads about herself or her loved ones, she would never fight with her audience. “As long as my movies are doing well and I am entertaining them…” Alia added that these are the times when she can express her appreciation to her audience.
