India are in New Zealand to take part in a three-match T20I and ODI series and the two teams locked horns in the second T20I on November 20, Sunday, after the first match got washed out without a ball being bowled due to persistent rains.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to field first, putting India in deep trouble right away, as they removed Rishabh Pant for just 6 runs. Ishan Kishan, who opened alongside Pant, made his way back to the pavilion after scoring a well-made 36. Suryakumar Yadav, who came in at Number 3, smashed an unbeaten 111 runs off just 51 balls and stunned the spectators with his peculiar knock.

India eventually put on 191 runs on the board at the end of the first innings on the back of Suryakumar’s heroics and put the Black Caps on the back foot right away. The right-handed batter scored at a strike rate of over 200 and smashed seven sixes and 11 fours on his course.

In return, the Kiwi batter Fin Allen, who opened the innings alongside Devon Conway, made his way back to the dressing room in the very first over off Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a duck. While wicketkeeper Conway managed to contribute 25 runs to the Kiwis’ scoreboard, Kane Williamson, the captain, looked steady at the other end.

New Zealand eventually lost half of their men at the end of 14 overs and after putting on 91 runs on the board. Williamson, who was fighting it out at the other end, toiled hard and ensured New Zealand stayed in the race by taking it deep.

Despite note-worthy innings from Williamson, the Black Caps lost the match by 65 runs and India, on the other hand, took an early 1-0 lead in the series on the back of a brilliant four-for from Deepak Hooda, with the final match to be played on Tuesday. India would hope to carry on with the momentum and seal the series by clinching a win in the third match as well.
