Road Safety World Series is witnessing some cracking games unfold with legends working hard for a social cause. India Legends are the current favourites to win the title for the second consecutive time. However, Sri Lanka legends are giving tough competition to them at present. In match five of the league, Sri Lanka Legends and England Legends competed against each other.

Sri Lanka Legends’ skipper Tillakaratne Dilshan called it right at the toss and elected to field first. Green Park, Kanpur is a bowling-friendly surface and teams batting second have higher chances to win the match. Betting on the records in the tournament so far, the decision to field first looked justifiable.

England Legends’ batters struggled to get off to a great start and ended the powerplay on a poor note. Managing only 25 runs in the first six overs, Ian Bell and Phil Mustard tried to steady the innings. Middle overs, however, proved costly for the team as they kept losing wickets.

Sanath Jayasuriya, the Sri Lanka Legend, bagged a four-for to his name and conceded only three runs. On the back of his excellent spell, Sri Lanka Legends managed to bowl out the Three Lions for just 78 runs.

Sri Lanka Legends’ perfect chase

The island nation veterans looked on course right from ball one of the match. They carried on with the momentum in the second innings as well as they had a decent powerplay. Not what the English veterans wanted as they kept conceding runs despite picking up a couple of wickets.

After losing a wicket on the last ball of the powerplay, Upul Tharanga took up the task of counter-attacking. A few glorious shots followed Dilshan’s wicket and the team looked on course to register their second consecutive win.

Sri Lanka Legends ended up winning the match by seven wickets with five overs to spare. Fans rejoiced the moment and requested the veterans to carry on with the same throughout the tournament.
