ODI World Cup 2023
‘Jos Buttler ne aukat dikha di’– Fans react as England win toss and opt to bat first vs Pakistan in ODI World Cup 2023
England wins the toss and bat first to eliminate Pakistan from the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.
Pakistan have been knocked out of the ODI World Cup 2023 on Saturday. This was even before a ball could be bowled in the game between England and Pakistan. Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bat first. This means that Pakistan will have to chase down the target set by England in under three overs.
Babar Azam and his team’s only chance to make it to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 was by batting first. If Pakistan had batted first and scored above 400 runs they would have had to bowl out England under 113 runs.
The England team went in with the same side that had won against the Netherlands. David Willey is playing his last match for England after having announced his retirement from the game. Pakistan made one change as Shadab Khan came in for Hasan Ali from the last match.
Pakistan’s exit confirmed from ODI World Cup 2023
Jos Buttler the England skipper put cold water on the hopes for Pakistan to make it to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup. The 2019 World Cup winners came into the tournament with a lot of hopes and expectations.
If England wins on Saturday they will all but confirm their place in the 2025 Champions Trophy tournament in Pakistan. The Pakistanis have already gained a direct entry as they are the hosts of the tournament.
Pakistani skipper Babar Azam was disappointed and said that he would have wanted to bat first as well. The 29-year-old also conceded that the toss wasn’t in their hands and emphasized hopes on the bowlers to do the job. It was evident that the Pakistani skipper was really upset after losing the toss.
It was a dream start to the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament for Pakistan as they won their first two games. After beating the Netherlands and Sri Lankans the next game was the big game versus India in Ahmedabad.
Apart from Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan, none of the other batters could put up a fight as they lost 8 wickets for 36 runs in the game. This was followed by three more losses in the next three games. The slide was arrested when Pakistan beat Bangladesh and New Zealand to evoke some hope amongst the fans.
