India and Bangladesh faced off against each other in the third ODI on December 10, Saturday and it was the Men in Blue who came out on top in the high-scoring game. To add more, it was Ishan Kishan who top-scored for the team with his fastest double century, while the Indian superstar scored 113 runs to his name.
The KL Rahul-led team went on to win the match by 227 runs, their biggest-ever international win margin in ODI cricket. As things stand, Dinesh Karthik, the Indian cricketer, opened up on Kishan’s performance and said that Shikhar Dhawan might have to sit out since Shubman Gill will be making a comeback at the earliest.
Saying that it would be Rohit Sharma who would be opening the innings, Karthik predicted that either of Gill, Kishan and Dhawan would be opening alongside the Indian captain. Given that Gill and Kishan are in red-hot form, Karthik said that Dhawan might have to sit out for the series against Sri Lanka.
Somebody has to sit out: Dinesh Karthik
Further, Karthik highlighted Gill’s stupendous run in the 50-over format this year and said that the right-handed batter cannot be forced to sit out for a long time, given that the southpaw is yet to make an impact with the bat of late.
“For the Sri Lanka series, where does Dhawan stand? It is going to be interesting to see how they are going to leave out Ishan Kishan. If Rohit Sharma is available, somebody has to miss out. It could well be him (Dhawan),” Karthik was quoted as saying.
“That could be a sad end to a glorious career. But some questions to answer for the new selectors. Interestingly, if Shubman Gill was a part of the squad, he would have probably opened because he has been doing it for some time with aplomb. Ishan Kishan, given an opportunity, has taken it with both hands. This is going to put Shikhar Dhawan in a fix,” said the Indian wicketkeeper further.
