In the 24th match of the Indian Premier League 2023, Chennai Super Kings beat Royal Challengers Bangalore in their backyard by 8 runs. In the southern Derby at the M Chinnaswamy stadium, it was a run-fest as both teams scored hefty totals, though RCB fell eight runs short while chasing 227. Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the game, two legendary former India skippers MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli reunited at the ground.
The CSK skipper MS Dhoni spent some time with Virat Kohli following a tough victory. A video of the pair spending time together was released by the Indian Premier League. In the video, Kohli can be seen laughing out loud in Dhoni’s presence. Notably, The two were the most successful captains India has ever had, leading Indian cricket for nearly two decades. While Dhoni had an unparalleled record and consistency in World competitions, the Indian Test team achieved unprecedented heights under the leadership of Kohli.

Earlier in the game, after winning the toss, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis opted to bowl first. His decision seemed to go well as Mohammad Siraj dismissed the man in the form, Ruturaj Gaikwad, for just 3 runs. However, this was the only time when RCB felt relieved as other CSK batters started hammering bowlers all around the park. Ajinkya Rahane, along with Devon Conway, added 74 runs for the second wicket and helped CSK to register a hefty total.
Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to hold the nerves
Rahane, in his innings, scored 37 runs off 20 balls before getting dismissed by Wanindu Hasranga. After his departure, Shivam Dube, along with Conway, added 80 runs off 37 balls for the third wicket. Conway and Dube both hammered half-centuries and helped CSK to post a massive total of 226/6 in 20 overs. Conway, in his innings, scored 83 runs off 45 balls, while Dube scored 52 runs off 27 balls.
Chasing 227 was not an easy task and RCB got a terrible start. Opener Virat Kohli was dismissed in the very first over, while Mahipal Lomror also fell soon. RCB were restricted to 15-2 when Maxwell joined skipper du Plessis in the middle. Two overseas superstars hammered amazing innings as they added 126 runs for the third wicket.
Maxwell, in his innings, scored 76 runs off 36 balls, while du Plessis hammered 62 runs off 33 balls. After their dismissal, RCB failed to capitalise on the start and fell short by a narrow margin. Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirna proved to be the go-to bowlers for CSK as they clinched three and two wickets, respectively. This is CSK’s third win of the season and they are now in third place in the points table.
