‘Isne toh ultimatum dediya’ – Fans react as Jay Shah discusses Rohit Sharma’s place in Indian team for T20 World Cup

The Indian team management have a lot of questions to answer during the upcoming series against South Africa.

The Indian Cricket Board has said that Rohit Sharma cannot be guaranteed a spot in the T20 team. Prior to accepting to captain the squad in the worldwide competition, which will take place in the West Indies and the USA in June of next year, there had been rumours that Rohit requested confirmation from the highest authority.

There is no guarantee that Rohit would be selected for the team, as stated by Indian Cricket Board Secretary Jay Shah. Many people think that Rohit deserves to be included in the team for the major world event, which takes place from June 3–30. According to some media sources, the 36-year-old has asked for clarification over his position in the T20 team.

Jay Shah said, “What is the need to have clarity right now? It (T20 World Cup) is starting in June. We have the IPL before that and also the series against Afghanistan.”

Suryakumar Yadav has been selected as Team India’s skipper for the three-game T20I series versus South Africa in Hardik Pandya’s absence. Rohit hasn’t played a T20I since the previous T20 World Cup.

Mohammed Shami might participate in the upcoming two-match Test series versus Proteas, according to the Indian Cricket Board official. Shami has been suffering an ankle issue since the ODI World Cup 2023.

Jay Shah said, “Shami could play the Test series against South Africa. He is not at the NCA at the moment but will go there. We are confident that he will be fine.”

“We will have to increase the amount of interest in the public for the pink-ball Test” : Jay Shah

Jay Shah spoke about the dying interest in Test Cricket. He spoke about people being excited to see more Pink Ball tests than the traditional format of the game.

The Indian Cricket Board official said, “We will have to increase the amount of interest in the public for the pink-ball Test. If you recall the Test ended in 2-3 days. Everyone wants to watch a Test match lasting 4-5 days. Once they get more used to it we will do more pink-ball Tests. Last time it was done in Australia, no one has done it since then. We were in talks with England, but we will do it gradually.”
