‘Isko wapis coach banao, badiya tha ye’ – Fans react to Ravi Shastri backing young left handed batter for ODI World Cup 2023

The former head coach believes a left hander is much needed for the Indian team ahead of the two major competitions

Ravi Shastri

According to former India head coach Ravi Shastri, India should choose three left-handed players for their starting lineup. Shastri stated on Star Sports that the Indian team will benefit greatly from having left-handed bats in the ODI World Cup in 2023 since it would give a great deal of variation to their lineup. In addition to these three batters, Shastri stated that the three other left-handed players in the batting order he would want to see are: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya.

Ravi Shastri was speaking to Star Sports and discussed the option of Tilak Varma while picking a squad for Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023. He said, “There are three other positions where I think two left-handers have to come in, apart from the top four you mentioned. Now this is where the selectors’ role comes in because they are watching. They know who’s the guy who’s hot. If Tilak Varma is hot, bring him in. If you think Yashasvi Jaiswal is hot, bring him in.”

Ishan Kishan has been keeping for the last 15 months: Ravi Shastri

Ishan Kishan was supported by India for the position of opener by Shastri, who claimed that this was done beforehand of the ODI World Cup as well as the Asia Cup. He said, “So if you have persisted with Ishan Kishan for the last 6 to 8 months and he’s going to keep wickets, he comes in, in any case. But get two left-handers. Including Jaddu, there should be three left-handers in the top seven. Ishan Kishan has been keeping for the last 15 months. Why go somewhere else?”

The former captain of India recommended Tilak Varma for being given the No. 4 spot and expressed his admiration for the young man’s recent batting performance. Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav are two batsmen that India have tried over the position, but neither of them has been able to claim it as their own in ODI matches. Varma was India’s highest-scoring player during the T20I series against West Indies, despite the fact that he had not yet played for India in an ODI match.
