The ankle injury that India all-rounder Hardik Pandya sustained against Bangladesh means he will not be playing in the ODI World Cup. In the Indian team, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna got called up to take his position.
When Pandya seemed to have twisted his left ankle in an attempt to block a shot during his follow-through, he had hurt himself. He went in for scans and did not participate in the remainder of the contest.
The Apex cricket council announced this unfortunate news earlier this morning. The statement read, “India’s unbeaten start to the ODI World Cup has received a massive hit with news that star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has failed to recover from his ankle injury and will miss the remainder of the tournament.”
He was not present for India’s fixtures against England, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand. India has already secured a spot in the semifinals and just has two more league contests remaining.
Only five wickets were claimed by the all-rounder across the four contests. This included the three-ball, injury-shortened stint against Bangladesh. The Gujrat Titans skipper had one scalp against Australia in the team’s opening contest. Meanwhile, he had two crucial wickets against Afghanistan as well as two against Pakistan.
The Rajasthan Royals player has only 19 white-ball matches under his belt for India. Krishna last appeared on the international scene shortly before the ODI World Cup. He took the valuable wicket of David Warner during that game and conceded 45 runs.
Krishna has 33 international wickets under his belt, indicating promise. For a spot in India’s pace attack, the right-armer will face off against players like Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah.
Is Prasidh Krishna available for the India vs South Africa clash?
Krishna may be chosen for Sunday’s vital World Cup matchup against fellow tournament leaders South Africa. This is allowed after the Event Technical Committee approved India’s substitute player on Saturday.
The World Cup rankings now have South Africa and India in the top two spots. Whoever comes on top after Sunday’s game will have a clear shot at winning the tournament’s group stage.

With Hardik our due to injury, now, the biggest fear of going with five bowlers is what if a bowler pulls his hamstring or any niggle during the match, we will have to go with Virat to complete the 10 over quota, which would be disastrous. pic.twitter.com/hLxAPfxHx6
