‘Ipl ki beep se bahar niklo ganguli bhai’ – Fans brutally troll Sourav Ganguly for his ‘winning the IPL is even more difficult than winning the World Cup’ statement

Winning an IPL title is an opportunity that comes every year, mostly in the months of April and May. Teams such as Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have five titles each to their name. On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders have twice while the likes of Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Gujarat Titans have won one each.

For winning an IPL title, first, they need to battle for 14 games to reach the playoffs. Whatever they do in the playoffs determines whether the team will become a champion or not. On the other hand, there is a time gap between World Cups (two years for T20 and four years for ODI). If a team misses out on either of these titles, they have to wait for a specific time before getting another chance.

Winning an IPL is tougher than a World Cup: Sourav Ganguly

Meanwhile, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly feels that winning an IPL title is tougher than the World Cup. He said that for winning the cash-rich league, a team has to battle for 14 games in league stages. The left-hander added that in a World Cup, after only four-five games, a team plays the semifinal.

“I have full faith on Rohit. He and MS Dhoni have won 5 IPL titles. Winning the IPL isn’t easy because it’s a tough tournament. Winning the IPL is more difficult than winning a World Cup as there are 14 matches after which you take part in the playoffs. In the World Cup, it takes only 4-5 matches for a place in the semis. In the IPL, it takes 17 matches for you to become champions,” he said in an interview with Aaj Tak.

The former Indian Cricket Board’s President’s comments haven’t gone down well with the fans.
