In yet another thriller game on Wednesday, Sanju Samson led Rajasthan Royals beat Chennai Super Kings by three runs in their Indian Premier League 2023. In the 18th game of the season, pacer Sandeep Sharma successfully defended 21 runs in the last over and helped RR to continue their winning run in the season. However, this victory came with a blow to the RR skipper as IPL fined him for maintaining a slow over-rate during the game.

In a recent press release, IPL informed that the wicketkeeper-batter and RR skipper Sanju Samson has been fined INR 12 Lakhs for slow over-rate. The over rate is becoming a big issue in this IPL as various matches are exceeding the Time limit of four hours to finish. Earlier, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis had been fined for the same issue.

“RR has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match 17 against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai on Wednesday,” the IPL said in a statement. “As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, captain Sanju Samson was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” IPL further added.

MS Dhoni failed to pull the last ball thriller for CSK

Rajasthan Royals defeated CSK on the final ball of the 20th over, thanks to a brilliant performance by bowler Sandeep Sharma against MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja. Despite conceding 14 runs in the first three balls, Sandeep managed to hold his nerves and defended 7 runs in the next three balls.

This was RR’s third victory in four games, and they have clinched the top spot in the points table. On the other hand, this was CSK’s second defeat in four games and the team will be looking to get back on the winning track as soon as possible. On Thursday, Punjab Kings will host Gujarat Titans at their home ground in Mohali in the 18th match of the season.
