IPL 2023: Five players with most 50-plus scores in the tournament history

The list consists of legendary players over the course of 16 seasons.

Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen a lot of great batting performances over the course of 16 seasons. Centuries by different batters have always been a point of discussion for fans and experts. However, half-centuries are always one of the most underrated ones. In fact, there are the fifties who have won games against opposition player’s centuries. A lot of legendary players have scored a lot of fifties compared to hundreds.

Meanwhile, in this listicle, we will have a look at most fifty-plus scored by batters. Before the readers mistake it for the fifties, we would like to clarify that there is a difference between half-centuries and fifty-plus scores. The latter also includes the number of centuries by different batters. Even though there are a lot of batters who have scored 50-plus runs, we will discuss the top five most fifty-plus scores.

1. David Warner

The former Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper and current skipper of Delhi Capitals have 61 fifty-plus scores since making his debut in 2009. This included four hundreds as well. At the time, he started with the Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) and continued the journey with the team till 2013.

From 2014 to 2021, the left-hander played for SRH. Last year, he returned to DC and is currently leading the side in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

2. Shikhar Dhawan

The captain of Punjab Kings has played for Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, now-defunct Deccan Chargers, and Sunrisers Hyderabad before. In the 209 games he has played since 2008, he has 51 fifty-plus scores including two hundred in 2020.

On April 9, he came close to scoring his third hundred but missed out by a run. Meanwhile, he has the second-highest fifty-plus score and is only 10 behind Warner.

3. Virat Kohli

The former India and RCB skipper is the joint second-highest as he is tied with long-time India teammate, Dhawan. However, the former has played 17 more games, i.e 226 compared to Dhawan’s 209.

In this list, the right-hander, Kohli is the only player to play for one team, i.e Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has five centuries with four of them coming in 2016.

4. AB de Villiers

The retired South Africa player started with DC and played for them in the first three seasons. From 2011 till his retirement in 2021, the former Proteas skipper became an integral part of the team.

Meanwhile, during his career spanning 184 games, he has 43 fifty-plus scores including three hundreds. He is eight behind Dhawan and Kohli and the difference will further grow.

5. Rohit Sharma

The five-time IPL-winning captain with Mumbai Indians has played for now-defunct Deccan Chargers and is now part of MI since 2011. After playing 229 games, he has 41 fifty-plus scores including a hundred way back in 2012.

However, in the last few seasons, his bat hasn’t been talking the way it was expected.
