In the recently held Asia Cup, the Afghanistan team led by Mohammad Nabi defeated the likes of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the Group stage and became the first team to qualify for the Super Four.

Although they could not win any matches in the next stage, the minnow team came very close to a victory in all of them. On the back of their never-die-attitude, the Afghanistan team found many new fans from the Asia Cup 2022.

Naturally, the team was well received in the country when they went back after the continental tournament.

On Wednesday, 21st September 2022, Afghanistan’s interior minister Sirajuddin Haqqani met with the Afghanistan cricket players. Haqqani inquired about the condition of the national team and congratulated them on their performance at the Asia Cup 2022.

He also encouraged them to unite and gave other recommendations as well. Additionally, Haqqani promised to give players special cards for their security, adding that with the change in the system, cricket was moving towards more positive development and transparency.

The interior minister also assured of the independency of cricket saying cricket was moving towards more positive development and transparency. The members of the Afghanistan national team thanked Haqqani for ensuring players’ problems were resolved and promised to make the country proud.

Afghanistan Cricket Board’s chairman Mirwais Ashraf had led the national team to the meeting with Haqqani.

Afghanistan is ranked 10th in the Men’s T20I team rankings ahead of Ireland, Scotland, and Zimbabwe and are only four points below Bangladesh. The Afghanistan team has also qualified for the upcoming 20-20 World Cup scheduled to be held in Australia next month. They have been put into Group 1 with England, Australia and New Zealand. ac
