ODI World Cup 2023

‘Inhone sachin paaji ko bhi involve karliya ismain’ – Fans react as Team India announces it’s fielding medal winner after Sri Lanka encounter in ODI World Cup 2023

India’s fielding medal gesture is getting popular day by day as the ODI World Cup 2023 passes on.

Shreyas Iyer fielding medal

India easily defeated Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 302 runs, to become the first side to secure their place in the ODI World Cup 2023 semi-finals. After the game, T Dilip stated that a legend will announce the winner of the “Best Fielder” award. It was Sachin Tendulkar, the former Team India batting maestro who joined in on the proceedings.

The icon spoke about how this gesture by the team management reminded him of something similar. He added that each player back in the 2003 World Cup squad had to sign a chart of “I can, we can”. He also indirectly stated his intentions of India winning the ODI World Cup and making sure that he did not burden them with this pressure.

After this lovely small message, he revealed the best fielder for the game against Sri Lanka. Shreyas Iyer was named the “Best Fielder” for the match by the former captain of India.

The management of the team and the Indian Cricket Board have devised creative methods to name the match’s top fielder. Following the match versus Bangladesh in Pune, the image of Ravindra Jadeja was shown on the enormous screen. After the match against New Zealand, the Spidercam carried down the image of Shreyas Iyer. The last time, KL Rahul’s name as well as jersey number appeared in the stands when the floodlights at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium went out.

Mohammed Shami’s record breaking fifer against Sri Lanka

Mohammed Shami has taken three five-wicket hauls. The pacer is currently tied for the most by any player across the history of the competition. He has achieved this feat despite having only played in 14 ODI World Cup matches.

Another record that Shami broke to become the bowler having the highest number of fifers for India in ODI history is another noteworthy one. Harbhajan Singh and Javagal Srinath had each accomplished this feat three times in this career. Meanwhile, Shami has surpassed them and currently has four fifers within the format.

Shami has now claimed 14 wickets in only the first three ODI World Cup 2023 matches. Due to this fifer, his total World Cup haul tally stands at 45 wickets over 14 innings. He has now taken 45 wickets in the competition, more than any other Indian bowler. He overtook former Indian fast bowlers including Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath, who both had 44 wickets.
