Punjab and Rajasthan face each other at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Mayank Agarwal-led side won the toss and chose to bat first. The way they batted in the game was expected as they have been firm believers in not letting the opposition get better of them in batting. The likes of Jonny Bairstow (56 off 40), Bhanuka Rajapaksa (27 off 18), Liam Livingstone (22 off 14), and Jitesh Sharna (38* off 18) helped the team reach 189/5.
Talking about Rajasthan’s bowling, Yuzvendra Chahal, who is the highest wicket-taker in the season, took three wickets. His spin bowling partner, Ravichandran Ashwin bowled well but his figures were spoiled by a six from Livingstone on the last ball of his spell. Ashwin finished with 4-0-32-1. Trent Boult finished with 36/0 in four overs even after bowling a maiden over. On the other hand, Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Sen conceded more than 40 runs each.
In reply, the Sanju Samson-led retaliated well as Jos Buttler carried his form with the bat. Buttler scored 30 off 16 but his innings was cut short by Kagiso Rabada. Skipper Sanju Samson didn’t let the tempo down as he scored 23 off just 12 balls. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was playing the game after warming the bench scored 68 off 41 balls. His innings included nine fours and two sixes.
On the other hand, Devdutt Padikkal, who was demoted in the middle order to strengthen their batting. Padikkal scored 31 off 32 and ensured that the wickets don’t fall from his end which allowed the likes of Jaiswal and Shimron Hetmyer to keep getting the boundaries. In the end, the 2008 winners won the game by six wickets and two balls to spare. The Men In Red and Gold looked clueless while defending the target.
Punjab bowlers looked clueless with the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Sandeep Sharma, and Rahul Chahar traveling the journey. With this win, Rajasthan has claimed 14 points and need two more to reach the playoffs with three league games remaining.
