Chennai and Kolkata will play the opening match of the 15^th edition of the Indian T20 League (ITL). This blockbuster clash will be played on 26^th March 2022. MS Dhoni, who has been the captain of the Chennai side since 2008, has decided to pass on the baton to Ravindra Jadeja. Kolkata too will have Shreyas Iyer leading their team this year. In the 2021 edition of the ITL, it was one-way traffic. Chennai beat the Kolkata in both the league stage matches. In the final of the tournament, the then MS Dhoni-led side produced a clinical performance with both bat and ball to defeat the Kolkata side by 27 runs to lift their fourth ITL title. Faf du Plessis scored a murderous 86 in the final to power Chennai to a win.
