India’s opening batter Shubman Gill wasn’t visibly happy after being given out on Day four. Right before the Tea break, he edged the ball that rose more than expected. The Red Dukes’ ball went towards the diving Cameron Green at the gully. The all-rounder bent low to his left to grab the ball. However, it didn’t seem to be a clean catch in real time.
This was the reason the on-field umpires referred the third umpire for a decision. Notably, the third umpire gave it out although it seemed that the ball was touching the ground. The likes of India skipper Rohit Sharma and Gill weren’t happy going into the break. After the day’s play, the latter posted the image of Green taking the catch on Twitter and Instagram story.

Indian Cricket Board official indirectly asks Shubman Gill to move on
Meanwhile, board vice-president Rajiv Shukla has said that there shouldn’t be any dispute regarding the dismissal. He added that the players must accept the decision of the television (third) umpire. Shukla further added that the likes of Kohli and Rahane are batting well in the ongoing WTC final. The duo has added 71 runs for the fourth wicket with India needing to chase 444 runs.
At the end of day four, the Asian side amassed 164/3, needing another 280 runs on the final day (June 11).
“We should not create a dispute over this. We should accept the decision of the Third umpire.”
“Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli are batting well and if everyone plays safe we can chase down the target as the target is not that big,” said Shukla.
On the other hand, Green claimed that he took a clean catch.
“At the time I definitely thought I caught it,” Green said. “I think in the heat of the moment, I thought it was clean and threw it up and obviously showed no sign of any doubt. And then it’s left up to the third umpire (Kettleborough) and he agreed.”
