India as a cricketing nation has been known for its batting prowess and has produced some of the most astonishing technically sound batter throughout its rich history. One of the prominent reasons for India’s rich batting legacy has been its strong domestic and Age cricket setup which constantly churns out some of the technically solid young batters across the world and some of them go on further to represent the nation. 

Whether it has been Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar’s of the past or Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill’s of the present, the competitive domestic setup of Indian cricket keeps on giving. The recent young prodigy of the Indian batting pool who has made a sensation in the corridors of Indian domestic cricket has been Prakhar Chaturvedi of Karnataka. 

Prakhar has played a marathon innings of 404 runs in 638 balls against Mumbai in the finals of the Cooch Bihar Trophy. Cooch Bihar is an annual four-day Under-19 tournament that takes place every year in Indian domestic cricket. 

Prakhar hit 46 boundaries and 3 sixes in his record-marathon innings that lasted for more than 100 overs and on top of that, he remained not out which speaks volumes of the youngster’s affinity to batting and reflects the discipline required at the bigger stage. 

Karnataka clinched the Cooch Behar Trophy

In terms of the match, the tournament’s final unfolded at KSCA Navule Stadium. Choosing to field first, Karnataka found themselves in a challenging position, allowing Mumbai to accumulate 380 runs in the initial innings, led by opener Ayush Mhatre’s impressive 145-run contribution. 

Prakhar, Karnataka’s opening batter, showcased resilience by remaining unbeaten until the declaration, facing an astounding 638 deliveries and hitting 46 fours along with three sixes. Remarkably, he became the first batsman ever to achieve a 400-run score in a Cooch Behar Trophy final innings.

Riding on Prakhar’s exceptional performance, Karnataka set a formidable total of 890 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 223 overs during their first innings before declaring. Thanks to Prakhar’s remarkable innings, Karnataka secured a substantial lead of 510 runs in the first innings. 

Following the declaration on the fourth day, both teams mutually agreed to settle for a draw. With the advantage of a first-innings lead, Karnataka clinched the championship title for the Cooch Behar Trophy this season.
