The former Pakistani captain, selector, and a great batter, Inzamam-ul-Haq, is selected as the new chief selector of Pakistan cricket. Considered as one of the greatest Pakistani batters of all time, Inzamam is a highly reputed cricketer. The former Pakistani middle-order batter has replaced Haroon Rashid as the new chief selector of Pakistan cricket.

It is not the first time that Inzamam is becoming the chief selector of Pakistan. In the past, the 53-year-old had become the selector of Pakistan cricket. Between 2016 and 2019, Inzamam played a key role in the selection of the players who made a difference in Pakistan cricket. The likes of Imam Ul Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, and Shaheen Afridi made their international debut in the period.

Champion Trophy triumph in 2017

Under the leadership of Sarfaraz Khan, Pakistan won the 2017 Champions Trophy by beating the arch-rivals India in the final. Some of the biggest performers in the tournament like Hasan Ali and Fakhar Zaman were drafted into the team with the help of Inzamam Ul Haq. It is no doubt that the former Pakistani captain has a knack for selecting the right players.

As the new selector of Pakistan cricket, Inzamam will have to pick a squad for Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka to face Afghanistan in a 3-match ODI series. Later on, Inzamam must select the squad for big tournaments like the Asia Cup 2023 and the all-important ODI World Cup 2023. Without a doubt, Inzamam will have a big challenge ahead of him.

As a player, Inzamam thrived under pressure. In the semifinals of the 1992 ODI World Cup, it was 60(37) which helped Pakistan to beat New Zealand. In the final of the tournament, Inzamam shined again and scored 42(35) against England. The middle-order batter was just 22 years old back then. The Multan-born cricketer played 120 matches in Test cricket and 378 in ODIs. In both formats, Inzamam was a very good batter, who was known for his lazy elegance.
