India and Sri Lanka faced off against each other in the second ODI on January 12, Thursday and it was the Indian team who came out on top after chasing down a total of 216 with 4 wickets to spare on the back of a steady 64 from right-handed batter KL Rahul. To add more, the batter scored those runs off 103 balls and ended up facing criticism on social media for his slow innings.
As far as the toss is concerned, it was the Lankan Lions who won it and elected to bat first. Three-fors from Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav saw the Sri Lankan getting bowled out for a lesser total than expected. India, on the other hand, got off to a poor start eventually losing 4 wickets after putting on 86 runs on the board.
However, it was Rahul who stayed at the crease and took the team past the target. Rahul, who helped the Indian team clinch a win during the tough encounter against the Lankan Lions, opened up on the contest after the game and said that it was not a flat wicket, but rather a tough one to bat on as the ball got spongy and failed to move after the initial overs.
“I won’t say it was a flat wicket, but I can’t say it was impossible to bat as well. It was quite a sporty wicket. When we started I thought it was a 280-300 wicket. It wasn’t moving much, spongy bounce, apart from that there was not much. We bowled really well to bowl them get out for 215. Again the start was brisk from the openers. They (Sri Lanka) put up a good fight. Got the early breakthroughs and put us under pressure. Challenging game, we can be proud of the way we fought,” Rahul was quoted as saying after the match.
