Due to a family medical issue, Team India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the current third Test against England.
On the second day of the Rajkot Test, Ashwin created history by becoming the second male cricketer from India to reach 500 wickets. He will not, however, be participating in the following three days in the Test owing to an unanticipated circumstance, and it is unclear what his position will be for the remainder of the Test series.
Virat Kohli also withdrew his name from the team for personal reasons. Team India are already without his services for the current series. There is no news as of now as to when Ashwin would join back the Team India squad.
The statement from the Indian Cricket Board said that, “Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the Test squad, effective immediately due to a family medical emergency. In these challenging times, the Indian Cricket Board and the team fully supports Ashwin.”
The statement added, “The Indian Cricket Board extends its heartfelt support to the champion cricketer and his family. The health and well-being of the players and their loved ones are of utmost importance. The Board requests respect for the privacy of Ashwin and his family as they navigate through this challenging time.”
The Board ended the statement by saying that, “The Board and the team will continue to provide any necessary assistance to Ashwin and will keep the lines of communication open to offer support as needed. Team India appreciates the understanding and empathy of the fans and media during this sensitive period.”
“It’s been quite a long journey” : Ravichandran Ashwin
After failing to achieve the milestone in the previous Test matches in Hyderabad and Vishakapatnam, Ravichandran Ashwin finally claimed his 500th Test wicket in just seven deliveries. After dismissing Zak Crawley to give India their first breakthrough, the off-spinner bowled seven overs on Day 2 and gave up 37 runs.
Ravichandran Ashwin spoke to Team India legend Anil Kumble after Day 2 of the 3rd Test. He said, “It’s been quite a long journey. Firstly, I’d like to dedicate this feat to my father. He’s been with me through thick and thin and probably has a heart attack every time he’s watched me play. His health has probably gone for a ,toss because of that.”
