Ind vs SL ODI 2023: 3 moments from 1st ODI that created buzz among fans
The two teams faced off in the first ODI on Tuesday.
India (Ind) vs Sri Lanka (SL) 1st ODI on January 10, Tuesday, turned out to be a great contest with the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team coming out on top, after putting on 373 runs on the board, winning the game by 67 runs. There were many moments to take away from the game but one has to agree that Virat Kohli’s century gave a great start to 2023, making it one of the best moments of the contest.
For the unversed, the Indian team were forced to bat first during the game and fans opined that the team exceeded expectations as they outclassed in both departments, bowling and batting. We decided to handpick three moments from the game which made the fans buzz about the most.
Here are three moments from Ind vs SL 1st ODI that created a buzz among fans:
3) Virat Kohli’s 100
The Indian superstar managed to reach his 73rd international century during the clash on Tuesday and eventually helped the team put on a mammoth total on the board at the end of the first innings after being forced to bat first, scoring 12 boundaries and one maximum along the course.
To add more to the ton, it was Kohli’s 45th ODI hundred, meaning he is just 4 centuries away from matching Sachin Tendulkar’s record (49 centuries) in the format. It remains to be seen if the right-handed batter could also carry on the form in the final ODI to be played on Sunday.
2) Mohammed Shami’s non-striker run-out
When the Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka was batting at 98, although the Lankan Lions were out of the contest, in the fourth ball of the final over, Mohammed Shami tried to run the batter at the non-striker but the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma withdrew the appeal at the earliest.
One has to agree that it sparked debate on social media as fans questioned the intent of Shami, as he tried to run out Shanaka at the other end when the batter had a chance to reach a milestone to his name, given that the Lankan Lions were out of the contest.
1) Dasun Shanaka’s fighting century
Once Mohammed Shami and Rohit Sharma withdrew their appeal to run the batter out at the non-striker’s end, Dasun Shanaka, the Sri Lankan skipper, eventually reached his century after bagging a boundary and a six in the final 2 balls of the contest, although it was India who won the game.
It caused a huge buzz among the fans who lauded the skipper for his valiance and claimed that it was the other batters who lead the team down. One has to agree that Shanaka made the entire Sri Lankan cricket fraternity proud with his fiery and gutsy innings on a crucial day.
