After India’s recent defeat against England in the first Test, pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah finds himself officially reprimanded by the Apex Cricket Council. He was charged with violating Level 1 of the Code of Conduct during the Hyderabad match.

Bumrah’s breach specifically falls under Article 2.12, addressing “inappropriate physical contact with a player, player support personnel, umpire, match referee, or any other person (including a spectator) during an international match.” The incident occurred in the 81st over of England’s second innings, where Bumrah obstructed Ollie Pope‘s path while running between the wickets, leading to an avoidable collision.

The charge against Bumrah was brought by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, supported by third umpire Marais Erasmus and fourth official Rohan Pandit. As this marks Bumrah’s first transgression within two years, he received an official reprimand, and one demerit point was added to his record.

India faces injury woes amid humiliating loss

Jasprit Bumrah promptly admitted to the offence, accepting the proposed sanction from Richie Richardson of the Elite Panel of Match Referees. No formal hearing was required, showcasing Bumrah’s acknowledgement of the breach.

In the second inning, Bumrah showcased his bowling prowess, claiming four crucial wickets, including dismissing Pope. Pope’s noteworthy innings of 196 significantly contributed to England’s ultimate triumph in the match. Despite the disciplinary setback, Bumrah’s on-field performance remains a crucial asset for the Indian cricket team as they look forward to bouncing back in the upcoming fixtures.

Meanwhile, India is suffering from some injury issues as two players have been released from the squad ahead of the second game. Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja and wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul have suffered from various injuries, prompting them to be out of action. However, team management has named Sarfaraz Khan, Saurabh Kumar, and Washington Sundar as replacements in the squad.

Both Saurabh and Sarfaraz are coming back with a match-winning performance against the England Lions in the recently concluded 2nd unofficial Test. Sarfaraz scored 161 runs, while Saurabh took five wickets to help India A secure a win by an innings.
