‘I won’t name anyone but…’ – Ousted selection committee member makes sensational claims about Indian Cricket Board
‘Some of us wanted to have Virat for white-ball formats until 2023 WC,’ he added.
The current Indian team is no less than a miscellany of sullen players and one has to agree that team India are going through one of the hard-bitten phases of all time. To add more, post their dismal exit in the 20-20 World Cup 2022, many players are in saturnine, unsure of what is coming their way next.
However, the Indian cricket board went ahead to sack the entire selection committee led by Chetan Sharma on November 18, Friday and since then, there have been many speculations about what might have gone wrong for the outgoing team.
Fans, on the other hand, were in rhapsody upon hearing the same and went crazy saying that the redemption of the Indian cricket team had started. On condition of anonymity, one of the team members opened up on how the selection committee was allegedly made a scapegoat for the board’s nonfeasance.
Indian cricket board looks to rebuild Indian cricket team
Further, the ousted member claimed that they had to change captains as Rohit Sharma was taking too much pressure for his age. For the unversed, aged 35, Rohit was appointed as the all-format captain for team India earlier this year, amidst the Virat Kohli captaincy row, that quaked the entire country.
“The Indian cricket board has thrown us under the bus when they clearly know they should take the blame as well. The captaincy decision was not entirely our own. There was constant interference in selection decisions. The rotation policy in place came as advice from the Indian cricket board and it was of course logical. But they now blame us for having 8 captains in 9 months. They have made us the scapegoats,” one of the selection committee members was quoted as saying by IndieSport.
“I won’t name anyone or a group. But it was not completely the selection committee’s decision to go with new captain for all formats. Some of us wanted to have Virat for white-ball formats until 2023 WC. But ultimately, Virat was removed. Many in the Indian cricket board did not support multiple captains for multiple formats,” claimed the ousted member further.
“And as far as having 8 captains in a year is concerned, it’s important to rotate and rest players. Rohit is leading the in all three formats at 35 years of age. KL has been in and out of rehab. So, it’s only natural to go with the player next in line for captaincy,” he said.
However, the Indian cricket board has decided to rebuild the Indian cricket team and Hardik Pandya, the Indian allrounder, is reportedly set to be appointed as the permanent captain of the Indian team in the shortest format of the game, replacing Rohit. MS Dhoni, the former Indian captain, might as well join team India in some capacity, to reduce the burden of head coach Rahul Dravid, as claimed by the reports.
