‘How can they behave in this manner?’ – Former India cricketer expresses disappointment over Virat Kohli – Gautam Gambhir’s clash in IPL 2023
The 1983 World Cup champion Kapil Dev has recently made headlines for his comments against the current attitude of the Indian cricket team. While mentioning the much-discussed altercation between former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli, the former India captain recently provided counsel for the during his conversation.
He encouraged the Indian cricket body to train players to be good citizens when he was speaking. The 64-year-old continued by saying that whatever transpired on the field was “painful” for him and cited the tense conversation between Kohli and Gambhir during the Indian Premier League 2023.
“They (Indian Cricket Board) have to groom players to be good citizens also. What happened between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli in the IPL, it was painful for me,” Kapil Dev said in an interaction with The Week.

In addition to it, the former India all-rounder also went on to cite that he was even astonished to see the on-field behaviour of the two Indian cricketers who are very heavily rated as well as are also famous among fans. The former India skipper also drew comparisons of them with the likes of Pele and Sir Don Bradman.
“My two most important people – Virat Kohli, one of the top batters in the world; Gambhir is now a member of Parliament – how can they behave in such a manner? But sportsmen do lose their mind, from Pele to Don Bradman to all people,” the 1983 World Cup winning captain added further at during his interview with The Week.
The incident which the legendary cricketer is referring to took place at the time of a match that was being played between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. At the same time, it all ignited with Kohli getting involved in a verbal share of words with Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq, things soon escalated at the time of the usual handshake which happened post-match. However, things thereafter saw taking a wrong turn with LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir also getting involved in the heated discussion.
