Chennai skipper MS Dhoni was in the cricket park after last year’s Indian T20 League. The fans had arrived in numbers at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the home of the Gujarat side. The wicketkeeper batter scored 14 not out of seven deliveries including a six and a four. In the last over of Chennai’s innings, the right-hander hit a six over the square leg boundary.
The fans went wild as he turned back the clock. Meanwhile, during Gujarat’s innings, the three-time World Championship-winning captain of India experienced cramps. The incident happened in the penultimate over of the game. After bowling a dot ball, Deepak Chahar strayed down the leg side. Even though Rahul Tewatia failed to connect the ball, it brushed his pads and went toward the fine leg boundary.
Dhoni dove to stop the white Kookaburra but to no avail. However, while trying to get up, the Ranchi player experienced cramps and failed to walk properly for a few seconds. Even though he managed for the rest of the game, the fans got worried. After the game, head coach, Stephen Fleming put a rest to all the speculation around Dhoni’s injury.
MS Dhoni has been nursing a sore knee throughout pre-season: Stephen Fleming
After the game, the former New Zealand skipper spoke about the rumors of Dhoni not playing the opening game. The former said that Dhoni has been nursing his sore knee throughout the pre-season.
“He was always playing. Not sure where that story came from. He was nursing a sore knee throughout the month of pre-season, but today it was just cramps, it wasn’t the knee. He’s not going to be as quick and nimble as he was 15 years ago, but he is still a great leader of the side and, even with the bat, he is still going to play a part. He knows his limitations and he is a valuable player to have on the field. He is a legend,” Fleming said.

Between 2008 -2023, I agree, He is definitely not the same player. He gets cramps and tad bit slower now, but the entire 100k crowd in the stadium were on their feet for his little cameo with 6 &4. That’s the journey of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. ?

Yesterday’s loss for me feels like that 2021 loss vs dc in the first game. We lost but we had so much positives to take away from both the games. So not worrying much except Dhonis Knee for now. Hopefully he gets alright. He was limping alot especially after that dive??.
