‘He will make a world of difference in middle order’ – Former India coach lauds Tilak Varma as he continues to shine in IPL 2023
Tilak Varma scored 41 off 29 in Mumbai Indians’ six-wicket win over Delhi Capitals on Tuesday.
On Tuesday in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets to register their first victory of the season. The team that has been struggling with balance in the first two games finally crossed the line. However, in the last two seasons, the team has found a prominent middle-order batter in 20-year-old Tilak Varma. He has been one of the most consistent batters in the squad in the last two years.
Speaking about the same former India Coach Ravi Shastri believes that the 20-year-old batter will represent India in upcoming months. Riding on his consistency and batting abilities Shastri said that he will be surprised if Tilak Varma doesn’t play for India in the next six months. Notably, in the last game against Delhi, Tilak has been promoted to number three, and the batter paid off with a brilliant 41 off 29 balls.
While speaking with a broadcaster Ravi Shastri said, “India player already. This guy is an Indian player and I would be very surprised if he does not play T20 cricket for India in the next six months or eight months. He has got the maturity, he has got the flare. He will make a world of difference to the Indian middle order.”

Further praising the Youngster Ravi Shastri said, “He is just 20 years of age, the kind of maturity he is showing, is someone who is much older than that. It is very positive, not only from the Mumbai point of view but from the India point of view as well.”
Meanwhile, after playing a blistering inning against DC Tilak Verma was interviewed by Rohit Sharma where the youngster showed his fondness for the India skipper. In his interview, Tilak said, “I was waiting since last year to bat alongside you, it was my childhood dream and now I’ve finally gotten the chance. I really enjoy batting with you.”
