Star India batter Suryakumar Yadav is struggling from a lean patch in his international career as he has failed to impress in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia. India was handed a reality check from Steve Smith’s Australia who hammered the Indian team at home to win the series by 2-1. In these games, Indian batters misfired and failed to make any impact. Notably, in the middle order when Suryakumar Yadav had the opportunity to build the innings, he failed and got out for a golden duck thrice.
Although after the series a lot of questions have been raised over Surya’s selection in the team. Fans and critics are questioning his place in the team and asking team management to rope in young players like Sanju Samson. Meanwhile, former India cricketer Nikhil Chopra has a different point of view as he back Surya for the upcoming 50-over World Cup.
In a recent interview with News18 CricketNext Chopra said, “What he (Suryakumar) has shown in the last year, scoring more than 1000 runs in T20s with a strike rate of over 180, I hope he makes it to the World Cup squad. When he starts to get runs sky is the limit. When he performs, he will win you games. He bats with a mindset of winning the matches so I just hope that he is a part of the XI and the Indian team persists with him.”
He will gain experience: Nikhil Chopra
Further speaking about his performance Nikhil Chopra said that Surya will gain experience with time. He believed that the more Surya play the more he will win matches for India. He said, “The more he plays, the more he will gain experience and will win more games for the team. To me, he is a find we should take care of him and persist with him.”
Notably, Surya is set to represent Mumbai in the upcoming 16th edition of the Indian T20 League. He will have to play a key role in the middle order for the five times champion team. Meanwhile, in a recent report in Indian Express, it is also said that Surya could lead Mumbai if India skipper Rohit Sharma takes a break ahead of the Test Championship finals.
