The Commonwealth Games 2022 is almost upon us with just a day to go before the curtain raiser event. India has sent a strong 311-athlete contingent to Birmingham and looks hopeful for a strong performance in the global event.

One such athlete who is all set to challenge for Gold in the upcoming mega event is ace shuttler Lakshya Sen. Arriving in Birmingham with the Indian badminton contingent, Sen had a chance to speak to the media. Talking to ANI, Sen said, “I feel excited to be a part of the Commonwealth Games 2022. I have seen in the past how these games are and how important they are for India. I am really looking forward to playing my first game. My practice session over here went good, so, I am really confident.”

On facing his own teammates in later stages, the Indian shuttler said, “We are first focussing on team events as of now and later on the individuals, we might face each other in the semi-finals or finals.”

Indian Badminton team featuring Lakshya Sen, won the Thomas Cup recently, something that would be putting a lot of pressure on Sen according to him but he remains focused on the upcoming event.

“There will definitely be a lot of pressure from past performances but this tournament will be a new experience for me. I also want to make many memories here, as it is my first senior multi-sporting event, so I also want to watch other sports if I get time,” he added.

“I think the team event would be a little challenging over here after a point because the first few matches will be easier but there are certain teams which we have to keep in mind and go together as a team to win the tournament,” said Lakshya.

The Indian badminton team at Commonwealth Games would be led by two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu. The Indian women’s team consists of Aakarshi Kashyap, Gayatri P, Ashwini Ponappa and Treesa Jolly, while the men’s team features, Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen, Chirag Shetty, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and B Sumeeth Reddy.
