With the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games set to begin in Birmingham in 2 days, the excitement for the event has reached sky-high. The quadrennial event is scheduled to take place from 28th July to 8th August. A large number of Indian athletes will be seen participating across various sports. India have announced a 215 – member contingent for the ‘marquee event’.
Having made their debut at the Grand event way back in 1934, India have won 503 medals at the event in their 18 appearances so far, and are ranked fourth in the all-time medal tally of the mega event. The Indian contingent finished at the third spot in the last edition of the event in 2018 Gold Coast, Australia. The Indian athletes bagged a total of 66 medals including 26 Gold and 20 silver.
India’s best performance at the Commonwealth Games came in the year 2010 as the hosts of the event where they finished at the second spot in the medals tally after. They had won 38 Gold, 27 Silver and 36 bronze medals. India finished with 101 medals against its name at the 2010 edition held in Delhi.
