In the meantime, Hardik is set to return to the India squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia, which begins on March 17. He will captain the team in the first game because regular skipper Rohit Sharma will be unavailable due to “family commitments,” the Indian Cricket Board announced on Sunday.

Hardik has recently led the Indian T20I team on a few occasions. There is speculation that he is being considered as a long-term prospect for T20I captaincy. He led Gujarat to the Indian T20 League title in 2022, which helped to improve everyone’s perception of him as a captain.

Hardik has transformed himself into a star all-rounder over the years, capable of bowling at over 140 kmph and playing quick-fire knocks while also holding the fort with the bat when required. So far, the right-handed all-rounder has appeared in 87 T20I matches, scoring 1271 runs and taking 69 wickets. In Twenty20 Internationals, his batting strike rate is 142.17.
