Zimbabwe and the Netherlands squared off in an ODI World Cup qualifier on June 20, 2023, at Harare. India is slated to host the World Cup later this year. Teams are therefore busy competing in this tournament to win two spots in the competition. Zimbabwe defeated Nepal in their opening match. For the Dutch, it was their first game. Therefore, the home team wanted to maintain their momentum while the Netherlands also wanted to win.

However, a picture of a supporter watching the game from the stands while holding a CSK jersey quickly became popular online during the game. Because MS Dhoni’s name was printed on the jersey, he appeared to be another fan. When Chennai Super Kings fans saw it, they went absolutely crazy and created some tweets to celebrate Dhoni’s worldwide fan base.

Zimbabwe chased 316 runs under 41 overs

Speaking of the game, Zimbabwean captain Craig Ervine decided to field first after winning the toss. Vikramjit Singh and Max O’Dowd entered as the Netherlands’ openers. In 20.2 overs, they put up a 120-run partnership for the first wicket. O’Dowd hit 10 fours while scoring 59 runs off 67 balls. Also scoring 88 runs off 111 balls, Vikramjit did so while hitting nine fours. He built up a third-wicket partnership of 96 runs with captain Scott Edwards.

Eight fours were part of Edwards’ 83 runs off 72 balls. Then, Edwards and Saqib Zulfiqar put up a 59-run partnership for the sixth wicket. With 34* runs off 31 balls, including two fours and a six, Zulfiqar is still unbeaten. In 50 overs, they amassed 315 runs for six wickets. Sikandar Raza was the hero for Zimbabwe, taking four wickets for 55 runs in just 10 overs. In nine overs, including two maidens, Richard Ngarava took two wickets in addition to him, going for 40 runs. In reply, Zimbabwe reached the target for the loss of four wickets in 41 overs. Skipper Craig Ervine, top-order batter Sean Williams contributed with half-centuries. However, with a century star allrounder Sikander Raza remained the match-winner.
