In the 46th match of the Indian Premier League 2023, Punjab Kings hosted Mumbai Indians at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Riding on Liam Livingston’s amazing half-century and an unbeaten 27-ball 49 from Jitesh Sharma, PBKS posted a hefty total of 214/3 in 20 overs. Jitesh, along with Liam, added 119 runs off 53 balls for the fourth wicket. However, ahead of the match, a funny bond between MI skipper Rohit Sharma and PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan set the internet on fire.

Ahead of the game, both Indian stars shared some hilarious moments. At the toss, after calling it correct, the MI skipper opted to bowl and revealed that Dhawan suggested he do so. Notably, both Dhawan and Rohit have played for India for almost a decade. They are one of the best opening pairs in the history of the game.

At the toss, after calling it right, Rohit said, “I asked Shikhar Dhawan what to do. He said to bowl first, so we will bowl first. It’s a good pitch, we have chased down targets pretty well, so will stick to our strength. You always want to have a score in front of you on such pitches. It’s important to keep the balance, we have played enough IPL games, and things can change quickly. You can see how tight the table is.” Dhawan also echoed him and said, “I would also like to opt to bowl first.”

Inexperienced bowling costs Mumbai Indians

Talking about the game, once again Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians failed to capitalise on the opportunity. After taking some early wickets MI lost the rhythm as Jitesh Sharma and Livingston hammered them. Livingston in his innings scored 82 runs off 42 balls with the help of seven boundaries and four sixes.

Jofra Archer proved to be the worst bowler for the five-time champions. He conceded 56 runs in four overs. Apart from him, Arshad Khan also conceded 48 runs in four overs but also clinched a wicket. Piyush Chawla clinched two wickets and proved to be the best bowler for Mumbai Indians.
